Day 45 (October 4, 2006) - Ashland, OR
<<^>>
Tonight I am leaving for Boston, while Petr will continue the trip alone for a few days. Francesca will be coming home for a long weekend.

Today we are visiting Ashland, OR home of the largest Shakespeare festival in the world. Yep, it's not in Stratford-Upon-Avon, but right here in America, in this little lumber community. Everything around the center of town is about the Bard, the festival goes from February till October and you can see people walking in Lythia Park reciting verses from Shakespeare's sonnets. It all started in 1935 when a local drama teacher added a production on Twelfth Night to the annual Fourth of July Celebration.

From the chamber of Commerce publications, I learnt that the town is becoming increasingly popular as a vacation destination and a retirement haven for baby-boomers, so restaurants and shops are quite chic and artsy. It is a good way to spend a few hours before heading to the airport in Medford, just 15 miles north from here.

The drop-off at the airport was smooth, and off I was.

Our RV in the campground.

We were next to a lake and last night we didn't even notice!
